About Us

About Us

With over 150 years of combined experience, our team is well versed in mining and technology. It is this deep understanding of the industry and its needs, that led us to design and build a solution to answer some of the biggest issues in mining.

We have focused on how we can help mines integrate and manage their data more efficiently and securely to improve mining operations, collaboration, and communication. By integrating data, the different areas of the mine can collaborate and share key data insights with one another either in person or remotely.

Gather key data insights anywhere within the mine from wherever you may be in the world and set up the path that will prepare your mine for the future of digitalization.

Our History

Our History

Innovation comes in many ways; sometimes it is doodling on a napkin, sometimes it is a comment made over lunch. Eclipse Mining Technologies was conceived much the same way. Weā€™ve had an amazing journey coming to where we are today.

With mine sites moving rapidly toward digitalization we started by looking at the need to share and deliver clear and efficient data in a multi-dimensional way and with the right levels of the organization. We listened to many of our worldwide colleagues about the challenges they face with data management. We developed the concept determined by involvement from our experience in the mining sector.

It took a full year to collect the information necessary to solve the puzzle that defines a mining-specific integrated platform. And Eclipse Mining Technologies became a reality. Much of the value in mining will shift from how well a mine operates to how well it leverages technology to collect, analyze and act on information to boost collaboration and move material more productively. Eclipse will be there every step of the way.

Leadership

FRED BANFIELD

Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the mining technology industry for 50 years, Fred is a founding partner at Eclipse Mining Technologies (EMT or Eclipse Mining). His simple business plan remains unchanged: make the client successful. The foundation for that business plan lies partly in his expertise. Few people have been applying computer techniques to mining engineering tasks longer than Fred. He offers decades of experience in mine design, developing databases, evaluating exploration data and open-pit mines, calculating and auditing reserves, and financial analysis.

Fred received his bachelorā€™s degree as Engineer of Mines from the Colorado School of Mines, where he also pursued studies on the application of computer technology to mining. After serving in the U.S. Army, he became Director of Applications Division for Computech Research Ltd. and was part of the team which developed MinVal, one of the first geologic modeling and mine planning software.

In 1970, Fred and a colleague founded Mintec, Inc., a consulting and software development company for the application of computer techniques in the mineral industry and remained the chairman until 2014. Fred offers decades of experience in the mining industry and has worked on a broad range of projects, including auditing reserve calculations and mine plans worldwide, the design and implementation of computerized systems for reserve calculations, the design of ultimate pit limits and mining schedules for open-pit mines, and the design and implementation of financial models and calculation of reserves for mining projects worldwide.

Fred has received numerous honors throughout his long career and was inducted to the American Mining Hall of Fame in 2014, and the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame in 2015. He was also a recipient of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Explorationā€™s Daniel C. Jackling Award in 2007 for significant contributions to technical progress in mining geology and geophysics. Fred is currently a member of CIMM, SME, and a member of the Board of Directors of Seabridge Gold, Inc.

SUSAN WICK

In an industry where female employment still sits at around 15%, Susan is a pioneer among women in the male-dominated mining environment. For more than 30 years, she has faced both diversity and inclusion issues and worked endlessly to change them into opportunities. Currently, only one in 20 global mining firms is headed by a woman. When Susan was approached with the idea of this innovative technology she immediately recognized the potential to become reality and assembled a team of forward-thinkers.

Susan, Chief Executive Officer of Eclipse Mining Technologies, leads the companyā€™s strategy and overall direction. Additionally, when she was Chief Operating Officer of Mintec she spearheaded the international expansion, which eventually grew to have at least one office in each continent, creating jobs for 250+ employees. She is a master strategist, fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and amongst other skills has ample experience in international negotiations and corporate management. She is a transformational leader with organizational agility that motivates and empowers her team to be more creative, innovative, and productive.

In her free time, Susan loves horseback riding and training her horses. She has been a participant in The Mining Foundation of the Southwest since 1992 and has served as both a past president of the foundation as well as a board member and is currently serving as Treasurer.
